About Us

“Whether we and our politicians know it or not, Nature is party to all our deals and decisions, and she has more votes, a longer memory, and a sterner sense of justice than we do.”
    - Wendell Berry

The Compost grew out of the realization that most people care about conserving the environment. But they don't want to spend hours upon hours each week trying to parse all the news ー there's too much information, it's hard to dissect, and it's hard to care when it seems like nothing you do will really have an effect.

Our goal is to make it easier for you to:

    1. Understand what's going on. We break down current and relevant events into concise, easy to understand summaries.
    2. Understand why it matters. We highlight the implications of events so they aren't as simple to disregard, and you become more aware of how they actually affect your life.
    3. Understand what you can do to help. We give you practical suggestions on what you can do to contribute. It's easy to feel helpless in the face of an enormous obstacle ー hopefully this helps you feel less like that.

It comes in the form a weekly email newsletter (every Monday morning), and the website contains all of our previous posts as well. We're actively brainstorming ways to improve and other environmentally-focused tools that people want, so we really appreciate any feedback or suggestions you might have.
